Introducing Code-Based Mocks in Postman
Blog post from Postman
Postman has introduced code-based mock servers written in JavaScript that retain state across requests and can run locally, in CI pipelines, or as cloud-hosted endpoints. Designed to help developers and coding agents test against realistic dependencies before real services are available, the mocks support programmable behavior through APIs such as `pm.state`, saved request examples, route annotations, configurable rate limits, and chaos-mode failures. Users can generate mocks from scratch, Postman Collections, or OpenAPI specifications; run and test them through the Postman CLI; and deploy them to private or public cloud URLs, with session headers enabling isolated state for different callers. The approach emphasizes version-controlled, reviewable mock logic that agents can create and validate while developers review changes, and Postman plans to expand it with multi-service simulations, scenario-specific behavior, and more actionable contract-validation feedback. Local creation and execution are free, while cloud deployment is available on paid plans.
