Why every engineering org needs an agentic registry
Blog post from Port
Engineering organizations are experiencing a rapid proliferation of agents and skills, leading to challenges in managing "agent sprawl" where duplication and a lack of standards become prevalent. An agentic registry is proposed as a solution to these issues by cataloging and managing agents and skills across teams, enabling better oversight and governance. By integrating a Skills Registry, Agent Registry, and a registry for MCP servers, organizations can achieve auto-discovery of assets, apply standardization through customizable data models, and enforce governance to control access and usage. This system not only clarifies what agents and skills exist but also helps streamline workflows by connecting them to the relevant services and teams, thereby transforming governance into an intrinsic property of the registry. The approach was demonstrated in a live session by Matar Peles, Field CTO at Port, where registries were built using AWS Bedrock and Azure Foundry, showcasing how these tools assist developers in creating efficient, agentic workflows.
