Practical AI in Platform Engineering: lessons from Port's latest meetup

At the "Practical AI in Platform Engineering" meetup hosted by Port in Tel Aviv, engineering leaders from various organizations discussed the implementation of AI within their platforms, highlighting both achievements and challenges. The event featured talks from four practitioners who shared insights on integrating AI into workflows for tasks such as bug triage, platform requests, and scaling AI across the software development life cycle (SDLC). An anonymous survey revealed that while most teams have deployed a few AI agents within their SDLC, these are not yet at scale, and code review and generation are the most common applications, with infrastructure and security lagging behind. Evaluation of AI agents is still largely informal, with many teams relying on manual checks, and governance, guardrails, and access control emerged as the primary concerns regarding AI autonomy. The survey results suggest that the industry is in a transitional phase, with teams needing to address governance and evaluation to fully integrate AI into production environments.
