Port's business context, now native to GitHub
Blog post from Port
Port has introduced a closed-beta GitHub integration that synchronizes business context from its context lake into GitHub repositories as external custom properties under a dedicated Port namespace. Properties such as repository criticality, ownership, and agent-readiness are calculated in Port using operational and business data, then automatically updated in GitHub to avoid errors and drift from manual tagging. GitHub users can search repositories by these properties and apply rulesets based on them, such as requiring additional reviewers and blocking force-pushes for critical repositories while allowing lighter controls for experimental projects. The data can also inform AI agents using GitHub’s MCP server, helping them assess a repository’s readiness or apply greater caution before cloning code or opening pull requests. Administrators select which properties to synchronize and configure Port workflows that trigger updates through GitHub’s API, while Port AI and its MCP server can assist with setup.
