CyberArk's development team embarked on an ambitious project to build an internal developer platform (IDP) to improve deployment velocity, quality, and security as the company transitioned from on-premises to cloud products. Led by Guy Brodny and Shlomi Benita, the initiative aimed to create a unified system that reduced cognitive load and enabled developers to take ownership of code deployment with self-service capabilities. The platform introduced a common language and tools for developers, streamlining processes and enhancing the developer experience by offering both UI and API interfaces. This shift allowed developers to focus on writing code rather than managing infrastructure, while also ensuring high security standards. Despite initial challenges in integrating this new system within a large organization, the IDP significantly reduced the lead time to production changes and fostered a cultural shift towards greater developer autonomy. As CyberArk continues to evolve its platform, it is exploring the integration of additional features like service catalogs and dependency mapping to further enhance the developer experience and maintain competitive edge.
