External Interfaces: build your own UI on top of Port

Port has introduced External Interfaces, enabling developers to build standalone applications on top of its software catalog while allowing users to authenticate with their existing Port identities through OAuth. These applications use Port as the backend for blueprints, entities, relations, workflows, and access controls, ensuring that users see only the data and actions permitted by their existing roles without duplicating data or maintaining a separate permission system. The feature complements Custom Widgets, which run within Port’s dashboards and entity pages, by supporting interfaces that operate outside the platform for more focused workflows. OAuth app management is available through new API endpoints and Port MCP, and an accompanying agent skill guides frontend-building tools such as Lovable, v0, and React-based environments through registration, authentication, and API integration. Port is rolling out the capability with known limitations including potentially long build times, limited agent progress reporting, and inconsistent authentication setup across tools, while planning improved feedback and troubleshooting guidance.
