Plaid has announced a new feature called Instant Pay-Ins on Plaid Transfer, which enables real-time pay-ins via Request for Payment (RfP) on the RTP network. This allows customers to receive a prompt in their banking app and authorize transactions instantly, with funds settling in seconds even on nights, weekends, and holidays. The new functionality is powered by Cross River, combining real-time settlement infrastructure with Plaid's consumer-friendly UX and built-in risk tools. With RfP, merchants can get paid faster, reduce payment failures, and eliminate operational drag, while delivering a better customer experience. Carvana has adopted this feature to streamline vehicle purchases, speeding up traditional bank transfer steps and eliminating manual data entry. The new Instant Payments platform is built for scale and simplicity, enabling optimization of each transaction for speed, cost, and coverage, and unlocking instant pay-ins for various use cases such as funding investment accounts and repaying loans.
