Pinecone BYOC: Trusted AI Knowledge in the Customer Cloud
Blog post from Pinecone
Pinecone has announced the general availability of Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) for AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure, enabling enterprises to run Pinecone’s AI knowledge platform within their own cloud accounts and selected regions. The model keeps customer vectors, documents, metadata, and request payloads in a customer-controlled data plane, while Pinecone operates a separate control plane for lifecycle management, authentication, health monitoring, upgrades, scaling, and maintenance without persistent inbound access to customer environments. Pinecone says only anonymized operational metrics and traces are shared for monitoring and support, and BYOC integrates with Enterprise security capabilities including SSO, RBAC, SCIM, SAML, audit logging, encryption, and private networking. Customers retain the same APIs, SDKs, and workflows as Pinecone’s managed service, allowing deployment choices to vary by workload governance and connectivity needs. Toyota Motor North America is highlighted as an early user, employing BYOC to support AI applications that retrieve proprietary manufacturing and engineering knowledge while maintaining internal security and access controls. Pinecone also states that it is developing a fully self-managed option for air-gapped and highly restricted environments.
