Pinecone has announced several updates in its July 2024 product release, including the expansion of its serverless offering to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure, now available in public preview for Standard and Enterprise users, while remaining generally available on AWS. The release also introduces Pinecone Inference, an API in public preview that simplifies AI workflows by offering low-latency access to embedding and reranking models. Additionally, Pinecone has implemented date-based API versioning with quarterly releases to ensure stable development, alongside SDK updates to prevent accidental data loss by enabling deletion protection. Developers can now leverage a new sample app for building multimodal search applications quickly, and Pinecone Connect, which facilitates resource management from external platforms, is now generally available. These enhancements aim to streamline AI application development and provide more robust data management solutions.
