In August 2024, Pinecone introduced several significant updates, including the general availability of its serverless offering on Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure, expanding beyond AWS, which allows developers to build AI applications without managing infrastructure. The Pinecone API was enhanced with embedding and reranking features, improving the accuracy and efficiency of AI applications while offering a cost-effective vector search. Over 30,000 organizations have utilized Pinecone serverless, indexing over 25 billion data points. The Pinecone Assistant API is now in public preview, enabling the deployment of customized assistants, and the reranking feature through Pinecone Inference enhances application accuracy. For data security, backups are now available for Standard and Enterprise users, and API Key Roles offer granular access controls. New SDKs for Go, C#, and Scala have been introduced to facilitate faster development.
