Why can’t AI agents just use Google Search?

Web search access for software agents has narrowed substantially since 2025 as Microsoft retired Bing Search APIs, Google closed its Custom Search JSON API to new users and plans to end it for existing customers on January 1, 2027, and Google restricted new programmable search engines to 50 domains.
