Cloudflare Web Search API: providers, pricing, and how it compares
Blog post from Parallel Web Systems
Cloudflare launched its Web Search API in open beta on October 2, 2026, offering a single AI Gateway-integrated endpoint that searches through Ceramic.ai, Exa, or Linkup and returns up to 10 normalized results with unified billing, logging, and optional BYOK support. Ceramic is the default and least expensive provider at $0.25 per 1,000 requests, while Linkup and Exa cost $5 and $7 respectively; however, provider settings are fixed, with Ceramic suited to exact-keyword queries, Exa limited to auto mode, and Linkup to fast mode. The API supports REST and Workers integrations but lacks page fetching, extraction, pagination, domain or date filters, geographic targeting, and multi-query inputs, requiring separate tools for fuller research workflows. Documentation also contains unresolved uncertainty around Exa’s zero-data-retention status, caching behavior, and applicable rate limits. The comparison argues that Cloudflare’s service is most useful for teams already using Workers and AI Gateway that value centralized observability and inexpensive high-volume searches, while Parallel offers broader search controls, multiple keyword queries, up to 20 results, filters, excerpts, and page extraction options, and can still be used through Cloudflare’s provider proxy or directly from a Worker.
