Build an EU research agent with the Parallel Search API
Blog post from Parallel Web Systems
Parallel’s EU data residency option supports Search API requests sent in basic mode to the EU endpoint, requiring an enabled Parallel API key, Python 3.9 or later, and the Parallel SDK; integrations primarily differ from US deployments through the endpoint host and search mode. The guidance demonstrates creating an EU-based client, minimizing obvious personal data such as email addresses and phone numbers before queries leave a system, performing searches that return source excerpts, and building a numbered-source prompt for use with any suitably hosted language model. For covered requests, the endpoint, search index, and inference operate in the EU with zero default data retention, while limited billing metadata is sent to the US without customer inputs or outputs. Important limitations include that the Extract API operates on the default endpoint outside the EU residency commitment, live web fetching runs globally unless disabled, and model calls reside wherever the selected provider hosts them. Before production, organizations are advised to establish data processing agreements, decide whether to allow live fetch, define storage retention practices, and test with real user queries and languages.
