Paper Compute’s analysis of 766 agent sessions argues that the central challenge in agentic development is not capturing work but making stored knowledge usable. Although 70 of 100 reviewed sessions contained potentially reusable information, most should remain searchable history rather than be converted into formal skills, since feature work and debugging are often context-specific while recurring tasks such as environment setup, tooling configuration, releases, and deployments have stable patterns. The team found that repeatability and a clear trigger matter more than frequency, and that useful skills should be synthesized from multiple related sessions to separate consistent procedures from incidental details. Its proposed model uses search for unpredictable, long-tail questions and reviewed skills for routine behaviors that should be performed consistently, with repeated search queries signaling when a pattern may deserve promotion into a skill.
