PagerDuty Dutonians raise $26,000 in Step Challenge for Humanity Matters
Blog post from PagerDuty
During the COVID-19 pandemic, PagerDuty employees, known as Dutonians, organized a global fundraising initiative to support the Sydney-based non-profit organization Humanity Matters, which focuses on helping marginalized street-frequenting youth reconnect with their communities. This initiative, called STEP-tember, involved nearly 250 participants from 32 teams worldwide engaging in a month-long step challenge to raise funds for the organization. As a result, Dutonians successfully raised $26,000 AUD, which Humanity Matters plans to use to create sustainable programs offering pathways to employment for young people who are often disconnected from education and lack essential skills. The funds will help transform Humanity Matters' food truck into a commercial business, providing real-world work experience and legal income opportunities for these youths. The effort was warmly received by Humanity Matters, with CEO Mary Malak expressing gratitude for the impact the initiative will have on the lives of over 100 young people, aiding them in gaining skills, confidence, and stability needed for long-term employment.
