PagerDuty's Shift-Based Schedules, set to be generally available in May, aims to simplify and enhance on-call management by moving away from complex, layered scheduling systems. This new approach allows organizations to manage on-call rotations with greater precision, mirroring global operations, and offers features like intuitive recurring shifts, multi-responder support, and shadow rotations for onboarding. The redesigned system also introduces custom shifts and overrides to avoid coverage gaps and streamline scheduling processes. Shift-Based Schedules is part of PagerDuty's broader initiative to help customers transition toward autonomous operations, providing flexibility and context for AI-driven incident responses while ensuring global coverage and reducing manual workload. Existing customers will receive access to both old and new scheduling systems, with a tool to upgrade legacy schedules on the horizon, while new customers will experience the enhanced scheduling from the start.
