Illuminating the Asian and Pacific Islander Community at PagerDuty

In response to the rise of Asian hate crimes and a racially motivated shooting in Atlanta, PagerDuty employees founded "Illuminate," an Employee Resource Group (ERG) for Asian and Pacific Islander (A/PI) staff, to foster a supportive and inclusive community. Celebrating its first anniversary during Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Illuminate aims to empower A/PI employees by promoting cultural awareness and providing a platform for diverse voices. The ERG, which has grown to over 70 members, engages through bi-monthly meetings, a Slack channel, and initiatives like a Food Story Collection to highlight cultural heritage. In 2022, Illuminate organized various events, such as a trivia extravaganza, a curated playlist, volunteer activities, and panel discussions, to celebrate Heritage Month and uplift the community. The group emphasizes the importance of intersectional work with other ERGs and remains committed to developing programs that positively impact its members, while fostering a sense of belonging and identity at work.
