Better Data for Public Health: How Nexleaf and PagerDuty are Monitoring Healthcare
Blog post from PagerDuty
In rural Sub-Saharan Africa, where only about 28% of hospitals have reliable electricity, Nexleaf Analytics is addressing the critical issue of power outages that impact healthcare facilities by providing data-driven solutions. Partnering with PagerDuty and the Center for Public Health and Development, Nexleaf implemented a pilot program in 15 rural hospitals in Kenya, using IoT sensors and real-time notifications to monitor power outages and optimize energy usage, which helped hospital staff manage power more effectively. This program enabled hospitals to better understand the causes of outages, manage diesel fuel expenses, and improve financial projections, while ensuring that vulnerable patients are not adversely affected by equipment failure due to power loss. The success of the pilot has led to the ongoing integration of PagerDuty systems and the expansion of Nexleaf's initiatives to additional facilities, aiming to enhance the resilience of healthcare infrastructure in low and middle-income countries.
