Identity Management Day 2025: Strengthening Security for Human and Non-Human Identities

Identity Management Day, launched in 2021 by the Identity Defined Security Alliance and the National Cybersecurity Alliance, highlights the critical importance of protecting digital identities and is scheduled for April 8, 2025. This annual event aims to raise awareness about effective identity management practices, stressing the necessity of safeguarding both personal and organizational data in light of statistics showing that 79% of organizations have experienced identity-related security breaches, with most being preventable. The theme for 2025, "Existential Identity," addresses the complexities of managing the growing number of digital and non-human identities, such as AI agents and machine identities, across various platforms. To improve identity management, organizations are encouraged to maintain comprehensive identity inventories, conduct risk assessments, implement governance and lifecycle management, adopt just-in-time access, and engage in continuous monitoring. The event also offers a virtual conference for participants to discuss identity management challenges and strategies, providing educational resources and encouraging organizations to become Identity Management Champions.
