Summary

Ory Agent Security describes a two-layer approach to securing AI agents: Build integrates identity-aware authorization and auditing at the point where agents invoke tools, while Deploy provides production runtimes with registered noninteractive identities, compatible credential delivery, and lifecycle controls such as activation, rotation, and revocation. Build supports both harness plugins and SDK integrations, requiring every protected tool call to pass through an enforceable boundary where policies can permit, observe, or block actions and record bounded audit events without collecting sensitive prompts or tool payloads. Deploy separates application logic, deployment control, infrastructure operation, and security identity management through a live compatibility catalog that validates agent frameworks, runtimes, package recipes, and credential methods. Runtime authentication can use scoped Talos API keys, customer-managed X.509 certificates, or SPIFFE identities, with safeguards against embedding credentials in images, logs, or application code. Declarative CLI workflows, CI/CD automation keys, strict deployment reuse rules, and explicit activation verification support controlled operations, while revocation removes linked credentials when workloads retire or credentials may be exposed. The model distinguishes fail-open behavior for temporary policy-service failures at tool boundaries from fail-closed behavior for invalid runtime credentials, aiming to provide least-privilege authorization, accountable delegation, and durable auditing across diverse agent frameworks and hosting environments.
