Summary

ParticleDB is a Rust-built database engine that combines transactional SQL, Redis-compatible key-value operations, vector search, live analytics, and in-database programmable functions called Particles, aiming to reduce the need for separate systems such as PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse, and Pinecone. Designed for AI agents and conventional applications, it allows data to be stored, queried, analyzed, and processed in one engine, reducing synchronization complexity, latency, and risks from stale or inconsistent data. Developers can access it through PostgreSQL and Redis-compatible clients, HTTP and gRPC APIs, and SDKs for several programming languages, while Python Particles enable custom logic to execute near stored data. ParticleDB can be installed locally and explored through its web-based Studio console, and it supports shared access to the same data through SQL and key-value interfaces. The project is benchmarking transactional, analytical, and operational workloads, and reports that it addressed 96 issues identified during an independent Jepsen evaluation of earlier releases, including problems involving SQL correctness, isolation, concurrency, and data loss.
