How to Use AI Skills to Build and Learn with Infrahub
Blog post from OpsMill
Infrahub Skills are custom AI assistant instruction packages that reduce the need to repeatedly provide platform-specific context when creating Infrahub schemas, objects, Generators, Transformations, menus, and other resources. Built on Anthropic’s agent skills concept, they use version-controlled Markdown instructions and optional supporting files that load only when relevant, enabling teams to share consistent conventions without consuming unnecessary context. The walkthrough describes installing Infrahub, infrahubctl, and the Skills with an npx installer, then using Claude Code to generate a Device and Site schema, manage branch requirements, load the schema into a reviewable branch, and create related site and switch objects from natural-language prompts. It also shows how the Infrahub template can scaffold a more complete repository structure and how Skills automatically select appropriate workflows, such as schema management, object management, and concept tutoring. Although the Skills can apply syntax, naming conventions, branching practices, and Proposed Change workflows automatically, users still need enough Infrahub knowledge to evaluate the resulting designs and make informed decisions.
