OpenAI Build Week brought together nearly 47,000 builders from 186 countries, who created more than 8,000 projects over eight days using Codex and GPT-5.6, with participation spanning digital and in-person community events. Eight winners across Apps for Your Life, Work & Productivity, Developer Tools, and Education were selected based on technical implementation, design, impact, and originality, sharing $100,000 in prizes alongside DevDay passes, Codex-team time, and ChatGPT Pro subscriptions for first-place teams. Winning projects included Second Voice, which helps people with speech or motor limitations communicate through context-aware sentence suggestions; veTriage, a veterinary intake workflow built by a non-programmer clinic owner; Echo Canvas, a browser-based spatial-audio design environment; and Mechanica, an interactive digital reconstruction of ancient Chinese machines grounded in historical evidence. Second-place projects addressed Windows audio streaming, cardiac-arrest team support, MCP server security, and Vietnamese tone learning. Across the submissions, the event emphasized a model in which AI supports people with varied professional backgrounds in building practical systems while deterministic, auditable components remain responsible for tasks requiring reliability, safety, or precise evaluation.
