Onehouse LakeBase is now Lakegres™

Over recent months, both Databricks and Onehouse have drawn attention by developing solutions called "Lakebase," with Databricks introducing Lakebase Postgres and Onehouse announcing Onehouse LakeBase, a distributed SQL engine compatible with the Postgres protocol. This initiative is part of a broader effort by both companies, which began four years ago, to establish the lakehouse architecture as an industry standard for cloud data management, employing many core contributors to major open table formats. Despite efforts to categorize "lakebase" as an industry term rather than a product name, the parties could not reach an agreement, leading Onehouse to pivot by renaming their product to Lakegres. Lakegres offers a Postgres-compatible serving layer for Apache Hudi and Apache Iceberg tables, enabling millisecond lookups and high-concurrency query handling without data duplication, thus enhancing data exploration speed and query performance.
