Octopus Deploy 2.0 has shipped!
Blog post from Octopus Deploy
Octopus Deploy 2.0, released by Paul Stovell, introduces significant architectural changes and new features to enhance the deployment process. The update replaces the ASP.NET MVC user interface with a comprehensive REST API, on which the new Angular JS-based UI is built, ensuring all UI functions can also be executed via the API. Major improvements include a revamped communication stack between Octopus and Tentacles using HTTP and SSL, support for encrypted databases and variables, and new deployment conventions for Windows Service and ASP.NET/IIS applications. It also introduces guided failure handling, rolling deployments to minimize downtime, a more user-friendly security model with configurable teams and permissions, and an enhanced variable editor. Additional updates include a configurable dashboard, pre-download deployment steps, and various user experience improvements, all aimed at making Octopus Deploy 2.0 more secure and user-friendly while encouraging current users to upgrade from version 1.6.
