Kubernetes agent now generally available
Blog post from Octopus Deploy
The Kubernetes agent, introduced as an early access preview in Octopus Server 2024.2, is now generally available and recommended for deploying to Kubernetes in Octopus Cloud. During its early access phase, the agent saw significant adoption, with over 25 customers using it regularly and more than half employing it in production environments, leading to over 225,000 deployments. The agent has received over 20 updates, enhancing installation, stability, and customization. Key improvements include support for High Availability clusters, tenant-specific deployment configurations, custom SSL certificates, and image pull secret management to address Docker Hub rate-limiting issues. The agent has been praised for its ease of use and faster deployment times compared to the Kubernetes API target, as it bypasses external authentication. Looking ahead, there are plans to utilize the agent as a generic worker within Kubernetes clusters, leveraging auto-scaling and simplified management, with ongoing projects to enable this functionality.
