Summary

Nylas has launched IAM, a capability for issuing API keys with narrowly defined permissions and resource boundaries, allowing organizations to limit keys to actions such as reading messages without sending them and to scopes ranging from a single connected account to an entire organization. Keys are created from principals that combine specific API permissions with one resource level, and they expire on configurable schedules while existing application keys remain supported during migration. IAM includes Access Activity, which records successful and refused requests, affected accounts, keys, and outcomes, while configuration changes are retained for 400 days. Unauthorized actions or access outside a key’s assigned boundary are blocked at Nylas’s gateway with a 403 response before reaching Google or Microsoft, a safeguard positioned as particularly useful for runtime-driven AI agents as well as multi-tenant platforms, regulated customers, and enterprise security reviews. IAM is available on all plans through the Nylas dashboard, and organizations can migrate incrementally by maintaining up to ten keys per principal during deployment.
