Evidence shows that cross-project changes, which are common but costly, are significantly expedited in monorepo environments, as demonstrated by companies like Airbnb. This increased efficiency not only reduces the effort and time required for such changes but also encourages teams to undertake previously avoided tasks like large-scale refactors and API migrations. To extend these benefits to organizations unable to consolidate all code into a single repo, the concept of a "synthetic monorepo" is introduced through tools like Polygraph, which enhance cross-repo visibility and coordination without physically merging repositories.
