Nx 24: Task-Based Affected, waitFor, Fine-Grained E2E Caching and Agent-Ready Migrations
Blog post from Nx
Nx 24 makes task-based affected analysis the default for new workspaces, enabling CI to run only tasks whose inputs or dependencies changed, while existing projects retain legacy behavior until they opt in. The release expands CI optimization through Nx Cloud’s dynamic task packing and Ultracache, which automatically tracks files tasks read to improve cache accuracy and reduce compute use, alongside more granular caching for atomized end-to-end tests and readiness checks for dependent development servers. It refreshes Node.js application support, adds agent-assisted migrations, repository imports, sandbox configuration, and concise agent-oriented output, and introduces Oxlint, Oxfmt detection, and broader polyglot monorepo support for .NET, Java, Rust, Python, and custom plugins. Nx 24 also improves project graph performance, updates Nx Cloud terminology by renaming distributed CI agents to workers, releases a stable public API, and adds a CI timeline view. Major breaking changes remove deprecated executors, configuration helpers, Nx’s Module Federation support, and several older generators and behaviors, with migrations provided for most upgrades; users can update through `npx nx migrate latest` followed by migration execution.
