Custom Task Runners and Self-Hosted Caching Changes
Blog post from Nx
Nx is maintaining its commitment to open-source by ensuring that new APIs will replace deprecated custom task runners without pushing users toward paid features. The company plans to release two ways to self-host caches, offering an OpenAPI specification for those seeking control and free plugins for major cloud storage providers for convenience, all before Nx 21 is launched. Despite initial communication shortcomings regarding these changes, Nx is taking steps to engage the community more effectively, such as introducing a new RFC process, regular office hours for open discussions, and publishing roadmaps for transparency. The company remains focused on providing strong open-source foundations, with assurances that no major feature will be replaced by non-open-source alternatives. In response to community feedback, Nx is also issuing full refunds for previously paid packages during this transition and aims to continue collaborating closely with its user base to refine its offerings.
