Summary

AI coding tools can accelerate enterprise software delivery, but they also increase the risk of unowned, insufficiently tested, insecure, or unmanaged applications reaching production. An internal developer platform should provide one governed deployment route for both AI-generated and human-written software, requiring consistent application metadata, named ownership, source and image traceability, access rules, environment permissions, testing evidence, rollback procedures, and retirement plans. Controls should be based on operational risk factors such as data sensitivity, public exposure, business impact, and runtime behavior rather than whether AI created the code. Coding agents should receive distinct, limited, revocable identities, with authority to generate or propose changes kept separate from authority to release to production or access secrets. Applications should be validated in disposable full-stack preview environments, promote immutable tested images where possible, and retain known-good configurations for rollback. Stronger sandboxing, resource limits, network restrictions, and credential scoping are recommended when deployed software executes generated, user-supplied, or otherwise untrusted code at runtime. The article presents Northflank as a platform offering templates, preview environments, workflows, RBAC, audit logs, secrets management, microVM-backed sandboxes, and cloud deployment options to support these practices, while emphasizing that platform compliance does not by itself make an application compliant. It recommends beginning with a low-risk AI-assisted application, automating validation and lifecycle controls, measuring delivery and governance outcomes, and expanding automation according to observed risk and reliability.
