When Kubernetes Isn’t the Right Choice
Blog post from New Relic
Kubernetes, while popular, is not always the optimal choice for every business, particularly smaller organizations, due to its complexity and the significant expertise required for its maintenance. Despite being open-source and free from licensing fees, the true costs of Kubernetes stem from the need for skilled professionals to manage it, which can be expensive and are often underestimated by executives. The platform does not eliminate complexity, and misconceptions about its cost-effectiveness can lead to unrealistic expectations. Organizations must carefully consider whether Kubernetes aligns with their business goals, as it may not be suitable for teams focused on solving specific business problems rather than excelling at server management. Although cloud-hosted clusters can ease some challenges, building internal expertise is crucial for effective utilization, making Kubernetes a viable option for some but not a universal solution for all.
