The rapid integration of agentic AI systems into application performance management has highlighted a visibility gap around the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a key standard for AI interactions, which traditionally lacked transparency. New Relic has introduced support for MCP within its AI Monitoring solution, enhancing visibility into AI agent interactions and MCP server operations. This development addresses challenges faced by agent developers and MCP service providers, offering tools for tracing the lifecycle of MCP requests, visualizing agent tool usage, and optimizing AI performance. By correlating MCP data with the broader application ecosystem, New Relic provides comprehensive observability, enabling users to identify and address performance issues across AI layers and backend services. This enhanced monitoring capability is initially available in Python Agent version 10.13.0, with plans to expand to other languages.
