News UK monitors Kubernetes and Infrastructure with Amazon EKS and New Relic
Blog post from New Relic
News UK has transitioned from custom Kubernetes clusters to Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) to streamline operations, improve security, and reduce maintenance efforts. This move allows the company's DevOps teams to use Amazon's managed Kubernetes control plane, which simplifies infrastructure management and monitoring by running within its own virtual private cloud (VPC). The transition involves using Amazon EC2 M5.4xlarge instances and spot instances to control costs, along with implementing custom templates for infrastructure deployment and updates using Terraform and CloudFormation. By employing New Relic's monitoring tools, News UK gains comprehensive visibility into the EKS infrastructure and application performance, enabling rapid issue diagnosis and resolution. The migration to EKS, supported by tools like New Relic's Kubernetes cluster explorer, aids in achieving efficient resource management and cost savings, while enhancing the ability to track and respond to infrastructure and application performance issues.
