The origins of DevOps can be traced back to 2007 when system administrator Patrick Debois became frustrated with conflicts between developers and system administrators while consulting on a data center migration for the Belgium government. This frustration led him to ponder solutions, eventually forming the Agile Systems Administration Group with software developer Andrew Shafer in August 2008. The name "DevOps" was not intentional but rather emerged as a way to describe their group's focus on collaboration between developers and system administrators. Over time, DevOps has evolved into a global movement that aims to improve communication and cooperation between these two groups, with Patrick Debois currently working as a senior consultant for Vlaamse Radio-en Televisieomroep in Belgium.
