Kubernetes Monitoring with OpenTelemetry is introduced as a preview release aimed at enhancing observability in dynamic and complex Kubernetes environments by integrating OpenTelemetry Collector metrics, events, and logs with Kubernetes metadata into a single New Relic platform. This innovation facilitates rapid diagnosis of performance anomalies across pods, services, nodes, and namespaces without requiring additional agents or custom exporters. It offers zero-code, OpenTelemetry-native instrumentation, enabling automatic collection of pod, node, and container metrics/logs, and provides a unified observability experience that eliminates the need for multiple tools like Grafana, kubectl, or CloudWatch. Built on open standards like OpenTelemetry and Prometheus, it ensures flexibility, scalability, and vendor independence, making it suitable for large-scale clusters and modern CI/CD workflows. This initiative is led by Mikel Angulo, Product Manager at New Relic, who emphasizes the adoption of open standards and encourages engagement through the Explorers Hub for further discussion and support.
