How Our Security Team Uses New Relic One for Prevention

The New Relic Security team has introduced a new way to monitor for potential threats and security events using Nerdlets, which are customizable dashboards built with the New Relic One SDK. The team previously used complex NRQL queries in static dashboards but found them obsolete due to an ever-changing infrastructure. To replace these queries, they created a Nerdlet that allows users to filter and create their own queries, making it more user-friendly and flexible. This new approach enables the team to track anomalous data, identify security incidents, and set up alerts for bandwidth usage on specific protocols and network segments. The source code is available for others to try, and the team plans to add pre-processing logic on logs before sending them to New Relic in future development.
