Cleared for Launch: Ahead of the framework by design – Part 1

New Relic developed STAR, or System, Tooling, and Architecture Review, as a unified Jira-based intake and review system intended to replace fragmented security, legal, compliance, IT, procurement, and vendor-management processes. Rather than requiring teams to submit multiple forms and navigate separate queues, STAR uses one portal, one parent ticket, and automated parallel routing so reviewers can access shared materials such as architecture documents, threat models, data flows, vendor information, and roadmap links from the outset. The approach is managed by a combined Security, Legal, and Compliance review team that collaborates on tickets and escalations, aiming to identify cross-functional issues earlier and provide customers with more consistent answers to trust, regulatory, and procurement questions. New Relic argues that embedding governance directly in Jira keeps reviews closer to product and engineering workflows, reducing late-stage gatekeeping and helping the organization respond to evolving requirements involving privacy, AI, FedRAMP, and other regulatory frameworks.
