Announcing the 2026 Observability Forecast

New Relic’s 2026 Observability Forecast, based on a global survey of 2,575 IT and engineering professionals conducted with Enterprise Technology Research, finds that rapid AI adoption is increasing the need for effective monitoring across applications, infrastructure, and autonomous agents. Although most organizations have deployed or plan to monitor agentic AI, one-quarter report operating production agents without any monitoring, while two-thirds say AI generates or substantially rewrites more than half of their weekly code. High-impact outages cost organizations an average of $74 million annually, slightly less than the prior year, but remain frequent, with more than one-third of respondents experiencing them at least weekly and multiple-daily outages rising year over year. The report also notes a reversal in observability-tool consolidation, with organizations trending from roughly four to five tools as AI-specific products proliferate, despite half preferring a unified platform. It concludes that organizations with consolidated, comprehensive observability practices are better positioned to manage AI-driven complexity, reduce operational costs, and identify risks in increasingly automated production environments.
