The Next.js adapter API just shipped, here’s what’s next
Blog post from Netlify
The Next.js team, alongside industry partners such as Cloudflare, Google, AWS Amplify, and Netlify, has made significant strides in enhancing the framework's deployment capabilities across various platforms, marking a major milestone with the stabilization of the Deployment Adapter API. This development, part of the OpenNext initiative, allows third-party platform testing and includes a suite of over 9000 end-to-end tests, ensuring compatibility and reliability. A new Next.js Ecosystem Working Group has been established to foster collaboration and transparency, providing advance notice of framework changes and documenting capabilities thoroughly. Despite these advances, challenges remain, particularly regarding architectural requirements unique to Next.js, such as Partial Prerendering and cache revalidation, which necessitate bespoke CDN infrastructure. The commitment to better documentation and communication aims to address these issues, promoting a more open and adaptable future for the framework across web platforms.
