Netlify Functions, designed for Agent Experience
Blog post from Netlify
Netlify Functions, first launched in 2019, have evolved from a backend-for-frontend tool into a robust backend solution, now processing hundreds of millions of requests daily. In 2023, Netlify introduced Functions 2.0, which revamped the product with a focus on enhancing the Developer Experience and recently expanded to improve Agent Experience, making it more accessible for AI agents to interact with the platform. Key updates include event-triggered functions that can respond to various platform events, fetchable module support for interoperability, and a new syntax for background functions that simplifies their declaration. Additionally, Netlify now allows function-specific region selection for performance optimization and compliance, as well as configurable memory and CPU resources to accommodate more demanding applications. The platform continues to innovate, with further advancements expected to broaden its capabilities and facilitate more efficient and creative development workflows.
