NephroCompass is an open-source clinical decision support tool developed by Deepti Bahel, a kidney transplant survivor and data engineer, to help detect Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) risks earlier by leveraging the Neon Data API. The project began as a hackathon initiative following Bahel's personal medical experience with kidney failure and aims to fill the gap in proactive interpretation of routine lab results. NephroCompass utilizes predictive modeling, explainable AI methods like SHAP, and LLM-powered guidance to provide transparency and actionable insights for clinicians. It is built on a lightweight Postgres setup powered by Neon, enabling scalable and efficient data handling. As Bahel plans to expand the tool to include other conditions like prostate cancer, the foundational Neon infrastructure continues to support its growth, highlighting the potential of personal side projects to evolve into impactful healthcare solutions.
