Neon has launched an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, enabling large language models (LLMs) to interact with its platform by integrating with external data sources and tools. This server, developed in response to Anthropic's open protocol, supports a variety of actions that map to Neon API endpoints, such as listing, creating, and deleting projects and branches, as well as running SQL transactions and managing database migrations. The integration is showcased through the use of Claude's Desktop application, which allows AI to perform complex tasks like database migrations safely using Neon's instant copy-on-write branching feature. The project was rapidly developed following Anthropic's announcement, and feedback is encouraged through Neon's GitHub repository and Discord server.
