Introducing Organization Spending Limits
Blog post from Neon
Neon has introduced a new feature for organizations called spending limits, designed to help manage cloud costs by setting a monthly dollar threshold for spending. This feature sends email alerts when spending approaches or reaches the set limit, with plans to soon include an option to automatically suspend project computes when limits are exceeded. Implementation is straightforward, requiring minimal setup time, and provides a clear view of spending relative to the limit through a progress bar on the Billing page. As spending nears 80% and 100% of the limit, alerts are sent to organization admins, and a banner notification appears in the Neon console for team visibility. Admins can adjust or disable limits at any time, with changes taking effect during the next 15-minute spend check. The upcoming automatic suspension feature will serve as a hard guardrail to prevent overspending, resuming computes when limits are adjusted or a new billing cycle starts. This dual-layer control system—alerts for awareness and suspension for enforcement—ensures organizations can manage their budgets effectively.
