Summary

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a growing framework in the AI domain, with numerous servers being developed since the recent launch of the Neon MCP Server. While the Claude Desktop app is the prevalent client for MCP servers, the protocol allows for integration with any suitable Large Language Model (LLM) client. To demonstrate this flexibility, a new CLI client has been developed to facilitate quicker testing and interaction with MCP servers. The CLI client involves connecting to an MCP server, listing available tools, utilizing selected tools, and integrating these capabilities with an LLM, using the Anthropic API for streamlined operations. Despite some limitations like lack of streaming support and handling multiple tool calls, the CLI client serves as a foundational tool for further MCP client development, and can be explored via a GitHub repository, with feedback encouraged through a Discord server. Neon, which offers a serverless Postgres platform, developed this tool to further enhance AI integration capabilities.
