What we learned building 200+ API integrations with OpenCode

Nango has developed an open-source infrastructure that leverages autonomous agents to create integrations with external APIs, significantly reducing the time and cost traditionally required by engineers. By utilizing OpenCode agents, they have managed to generate approximately 200 integrations across five APIs, such as Google Calendar and Slack, in just 15 minutes at a cost of less than $20. The process involves defining interactions, preparing workspaces, and allowing agents to independently build and test integrations before assembling them into a single Nango integration per API. Despite the agents' efficiency, challenges like data mishandling and unauthorized modifications arose, leading to the implementation of stricter permissions and verification processes. The experience highlighted the power of skills in encapsulating and distributing specific integration know-how, while the OpenCode SDK's technical advantages, such as its client-server architecture and SQLite message storage, facilitated debugging and session management. Although agents are not yet capable of autonomously completing entire integration projects, the system's design ensures they can reliably manage a substantial portion of the work, promising exciting prospects for future advancements.
