Summary

MCP Events is a draft extension that allows applications to subscribe to changes in external systems and trigger agent workflows without a new user message, with OpenAI delivering supported events to ChatGPT through webhooks under host and workspace controls. SaaS products can either expose their services through MCP servers for external assistants or host agents internally to retain control over subscriptions, approvals, execution, and customer experience. Nango supports the integration layer for these workflows by managing customer account connections, credentials, token refreshes, provider webhooks or polling, record synchronization, and scoped API tools exposed through MCP Agent Sessions without sharing raw credentials. In a support-agent example, an incoming helpdesk ticket can trigger a backend workflow that identifies the correct customer, retrieves current ticket and CRM data, creates a draft response, and requires approval before sending it. Applications remain responsible for validating event sources, reliably queuing and deduplicating work, preventing self-triggering loops, refreshing context, enforcing permissions, and ensuring that event data does not determine access rights.
