Introducing n8n Assistant
Blog post from n8n
n8n Assistant is a preview feature that lets users describe desired automations in plain language, then plans, builds, executes, and debugs standard n8n workflows directly on the existing canvas. It asks clarifying questions for ambiguous requests, requests credentials only when needed, requires approval for consequential actions such as credential access and activation, and leaves teams with editable workflows, node-level execution logs, and persistent ownership rather than opaque code or one-time agent results. The assistant supersedes the earlier AI Workflow Builder by iterating through execution failures and proposed fixes, though users remain responsible for reviewing workflows, configuring external accounts, and determining production readiness. It uses plan-based AI credits, is enabled by default for new n8n Cloud instances except Enterprise Cloud, supports self-hosted Docker installations running n8n 2.36 or later with user-provided keys, and does not currently support npm installations, multi-instance operation, proactive monitoring, or browser-based setup.
