Not so basic anymore: More features for basic assets
Blog post from Mux
Meg and Dolphin introduced video quality levels as replacements for encoding tiers. They renamed baseline to basic, smart to plus, and added the ability to set a default video quality for new assets. The blog discussed the reasoning behind renaming encoding tiers and how they affected various features. New features available on basic quality assets include auto-generated captions in 22 languages, multi-track audio, and clipping. Paid upgrades coming soon to basic quality assets are static MP4 renditions and 2K & 4K modes. The team is also considering enabling DRM with basic assets, live streaming in basic quality, and other features based on user feedback.
