How we got critical data everywhere, all at once

Mux, a video platform company, faced an issue where different teams built separate signing key implementations for their products, leading to confusion and maintenance challenges. To address this, they unified all signing keys under one service using CockroachDB, a distributed database that ensured data was local to every Kubernetes cluster. The new architecture introduced a Go microservice into three AWS/GCP Kubernetes clusters where signing keys were needed, fronted by colocated CRDB nodes for availability and quorum during maintenance and zone failure. This unified service has proven stable and easily scalable, allowing teams to maintain it more efficiently.
